Erika grew up in a small town in Southern California. Exploring the hills, fields and washes was a favorite past time and ingrained in her a love of the outside world. She studied art at the University of Redlands and also in San Francisco, where she lived for over 20 years before relocating to the Southwest.
As an artist I am very influenced by “place.”
I am currently in the Southwest and am finding inspiration in the old motels and adobes that speak of a different place and time; the true old west, if you will , with it’s dusty streets, expansive sky, and bounty of nature.
There is a harsh fragility about the desert that I find endlessly inspiring. My monotype images of leaves highlight their hidden beauty; insect and fungal damage leave incredibly intricate patterns which come to life with ink and press.
